Is counseling confidential?
The confidentiality of your counseling is protected by law. Your written consent is required to release information shared during your sessions.
Information may be released without your consent ONLY under the following circumstances as outlined by Oregon law:
- when there is reasonable cause to believe that there is threat of serious harm to yourself or to others
- when a court order is received
- when there is reasonable cause to believe that child or elder abuse/neglect is occurring
I attend supervision and may consult confidentially regarding your case with my supervisor or colleagues to ensure you are receiving the highest-quality care as required by Oregon law.
What would counseling be like?
Counseling provides a safe place to talk about the things that are on your mind. Basically, you tell the counselor what your goals are and agree to work with the counselor to meet them. The process that works best for each person depends on that person's goals and needs.
Why would I see a therapist? What can I expect?

Is there homework between sessions?
Depending on the client's goals and our work together, I may provide handouts/homework to do between sessions. I encourage all my clients to think about what we discussed in our sessions throughout the week-and translate what they have learned to new situations.
